Meal Planner credits & licenses

The Meal Planner was built for LoschaZ. It uses no outside library of its own; only the cookbook photo scan borrows an open-source text engine that this website already ships for the AI Text Scanner.

What we built

The whole app was written for LoschaZ: the week board with its slots, drag and drop and keyboard controls, the recipe book with tags, search and the servings scaler, the recipe reader for pasted English, German, French and Spanish text (amounts, fractions, ranges, units, noise lines), the reader of schema.org recipe data, the link endpoint on our server with its address checks and limits, the shopping list that scales, converts and merges ingredients, the aisle dictionary, the pantry check, in-store mode, sharing and printing, the backup file, the offline helper and installable app, and the twelve starter recipes with their steps.

Components & licenses

  • Scan a cookbook photo uses tesseract.js and the Tesseract OCR engine with its English, German, French and Spanish language data – Apache License 2.0. The files are the ones served for the AI Text Scanner, loaded from this website only when you scan a photo; their notices are listed on the AI Text Scanner credits page.

Data sources

The starter recipes in English, German, French and Spanish, the aisle keywords and the pantry suggestions were written for LoschaZ. Unit conversions use the standard definitions of the ounce and the pound and the US customary cup, fluid ounce, pint and quart; teaspoons and tablespoons are counted as 5 and 15 ml.
