E-Invoice Studio helps you write correct invoices; it is no tax or legal advice. When a tax case is unclear (reverse charge, exports, the small business scheme), check it with your tax advisor.
Your invoices stay on your device. E-Invoice Studio runs in your browser: company details, customers and invoices are saved in this browser only, never on our server. Save a backup file whenever you like.
No tax advice. The tool checks the rules of the EN 16931 standard and XRechnung, not your tax situation. When a case is unclear – reverse charge, exports, the small business scheme – ask your tax advisor.

ZUGFeRD, Factur-X, XRechnung: which one?
All three follow the European standard EN 16931 and can be processed automatically by accounting software.
| Format | What it is | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| ZUGFeRD / Factur-X | A PDF/A-3 that people read, with the invoice data (CII XML) inside | Businesses in Germany and France – the most common choice |
| XRechnung | The invoice data alone, as XML (CII syntax) | German public bodies (with Leitweg ID) and companies that ask for it |
| Plain PDF | A picture of an invoice without structured data | No longer an e-invoice between German businesses (since 2025) |
E-Invoice Studio writes ZUGFeRD 2 / Factur-X in the EN 16931 profile or with the XRechnung profile inside the PDF, and pure XRechnung 3.0 XML.
When e-invoices become mandatory
Germany: since 1 January 2025 every business must be able to receive e-invoices. Issuing them becomes mandatory between businesses from 2027 for companies with more than 800,000 euros turnover and from 2028 for all others. Small businesses under § 19 UStG and invoices up to 250 euros are exempt from issuing.
France: from 1 September 2026 every company must be able to receive e-invoices and large and medium-sized companies must issue them; small companies and micro-entrepreneurs follow on 1 September 2027. In France invoices travel through an approved platform (plateforme agréée); E-Invoice Studio creates the Factur-X file you can upload there.
How the checks work
While you type, E-Invoice Studio checks the rules of EN 16931 and XRechnung 3.0 – mandatory fields, VAT categories, totals, IBAN check digits, Leitweg ID check digits – and explains each finding in plain words, with the rule number for your accountant. We test the files it creates with the official KoSIT validator and with veraPDF for the PDF/A-3 format.
Received invoices are checked the same way: the totals the file states are compared with a fresh calculation, so you see at once when something does not add up.
Why nothing is uploaded
Invoices contain names, addresses, bank accounts and amounts. E-Invoice Studio creates the XML and the PDF on your device, keeps your data in this browser’s storage and loads only its own program files from our server. That is also why it has no invoice limit and no account.

Frequently asked questions
Does this replace the official validator?
It is a quick check of the most important rules. The recipient’s official validator (for XRechnung the one of KoSIT) is binding; we test our own files with it.
Which rules are checked?
Mandatory fields, the VAT category rules, the calculation of all totals, IBAN and Leitweg ID check digits, the XRechnung rules (BR-DE) and the electronic addresses.
Is E-Invoice Studio really free?
Yes. Every function – ZUGFeRD and XRechnung, logo, QR code, customer and product lists, checks, the invoice book and backups – is free, without an account and without a limit on invoices. The site is financed by ads around the tool.
Does the ZUGFeRD PDF count as an e-invoice?
Yes. A ZUGFeRD 2 / Factur-X PDF carries the structured invoice data as an embedded XML file; that data is the e-invoice, the PDF page is a readable copy. A plain PDF without the XML does not count as an e-invoice between German businesses.
Do I need XRechnung or ZUGFeRD?
Public bodies in Germany usually require XRechnung and give you a Leitweg ID. For businesses ZUGFeRD in the EN 16931 profile is the common choice; some customers ask for the XRechnung profile – E-Invoice Studio offers both.
How do I send the e-invoice?
By email as an attachment, or uploaded to your customer’s portal – for German federal authorities the ZRE or OZG-RE portal. The file itself is the invoice, so do not print and scan it.
Where are my invoices stored?
Only in this browser on this device. Clearing the browser data deletes them, so use “Save backup” in the settings now and then, and keep the PDF or XML you sent to your customer as required for your records.
