Saved you some space?
The Video Compressor is free and has no watermark. A coffee helps keep it that way.
Trim
No upload. Your browser reads and processes the video on this device. Processing speed depends on the recording and the codecs your device supports.
Works as an app. Install it on your phone or computer and it opens in its own window, even without internet.
Make a video small enough for WhatsApp
Choose the video
Open the clip from your phone or computer: an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV that your browser can read. The original stays untouched; you get a separate copy.
Cut it and set the size
Use “Trim” to keep only the moment that matters. This page starts with “Exact size” at 16 MB, which sends quickly even on mobile data. Raise it if WhatsApp accepts more for you and the picture needs it.
Check it and send it
Play the downloaded MP4 with sound, look at its file size, then pick exactly this file in WhatsApp. On a phone, sharing straight from the browser depends on the browser.
How small does a video get?
The saving depends on the source bitrate, duration, picture size and movement. A video that is already tightly compressed may not become much smaller at an acceptable quality. Compare the estimated size before processing with the actual download afterwards. For an upload limit, choose a target below the allowance shown by the destination and check that small text and important movement remain clear.
Why “no upload” matters
Video Compressor reads your selected files on this device and saves a separate copy. It does not upload them to LoschaZ. The new MP4 leaves out the original GPS location metadata. Keep the original recording if you may need its full detail or metadata later.
Formats and devices
The tool reads supported tracks from MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV and other listed containers. Decoding HEVC or HDR depends on the browser, operating system and device. Output defaults to MP4 with H.264 video; sound is copied or converted when supported. H.265 is available on capable devices, with an H.264 fallback when necessary. The encoder may reduce the picture size if the requested size is unsupported. A finished MP4 still needs a playback check in the receiving app.
Tips for the best result
- For WhatsApp, Telegram and social apps, 720p is plenty – the picture size is the biggest lever.
- Use Exact size for the limit shown in your Discord or email account. Choose a target below it and check the saved size.
- Cut away the parts you do not need with Trim – fewer seconds, smaller file.
- Screen recordings stay sharp with fewer frames per second: 24 or 30 is enough.

Video too big for WhatsApp? Start with the part that matters
Most phone videos are too long rather than too detailed. A two-minute clip of a toddler’s first steps holds maybe ten seconds anyone will watch twice. Open the file in Video Compressor, press “Trim” and keep only that stretch. Every second you cut is space the picture can use instead.
Then decide what you need. “Smaller file” makes a lighter copy with a good picture, without a fixed number. “Exact size” aims for the size you type in, which helps when WhatsApp, a work chat or a slow connection sets a firm ceiling. “Just MP4” is for clips that will not play; it does not aim for a size.
Which size and quality to pick
There is no single right number, because motion, light and sound change how much space a clip needs. These starting points help you try, then you judge the result on your own screen.
| Your clip | Try first | Look closely at |
|---|---|---|
| Short clip, up to about 30 seconds | 16 MB | Faces and small details |
| One to three minutes | 30–60 MB, or a smaller picture size | Movement stays smooth, not blocky |
| Screen recording with small text | More MB, or a shorter cut | Text stays readable on a phone |
Example values for a first try, not WhatsApp rules.
Keep the sound that matters
A birthday song, someone explaining the problem, the odd noise your washing machine makes: sometimes the sound is the point. Under “Sound” choose “Keep”, “Smaller” or “Remove”. “Smaller” saves space on speech and background noise; “Remove” suits clips where only the picture counts.
Listen to the new file at the moment you care about before you send it. If a voice sounds thin, go back to “Keep” and win the space by trimming a few seconds instead.
Sending from iPhone or Android
Video Compressor runs in the browser, on a phone too. Keep the page open while it works; long clips take a while, and the screen stays on meanwhile. When it is done, save the MP4, open WhatsApp, tap the attachment button and pick the new file. Original and copy can look alike, so check the name or the size.
For a long recording that must stay sharp, WhatsApp also lets you send a file as a document. It arrives as the file you made instead of being compressed again as a video.

Frequently asked questions
Why does WhatsApp make my video blurry?
WhatsApp compresses videos you send as media on its own, and it decides how much. If you shrink the clip yourself first, you choose what stays: a shorter part, a sensible picture size and the sound. Then WhatsApp has less to squeeze.
How big can a WhatsApp video be?
That depends on the app version, the device and whether you send the clip as a video or as a document. WhatsApp has announced files of up to 2 GB as documents; videos sent as media get compressed. Go by the message WhatsApp shows you and stay a little below it.
Is the Video Compressor really free?
Yes. No account, no watermark, no limit on length or number of videos. The site is funded by fair advertising and by people who buy a coffee.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Reading, compressing and saving all happen in your browser. Your videos are never sent to a server, not even to ours.
Does compressing reduce the quality?
Yes. Every goal in Video Compressor encodes the picture again, including “Just MP4”. Compare detail and movement with the original. Higher quality settings can preserve more detail but do not make the conversion lossless.
Can I compress videos on my phone?
Yes, when your mobile browser supports the input and output codecs. Choose the recording from your gallery and keep the page open while it processes. Use Download, or Share when your browser offers it; processing time depends on the file and device.
Can I use it as an app or offline?
Yes. Tap “Install app” (on iPhone: Share → Add to Home Screen). The Video Compressor then opens in its own window and works without internet once it has been loaded.
Is there a size limit?
The tool does not charge by video length or count. Available memory and codec support limit what your browser can process. For a long or high-resolution recording, try a short passage first or use a computer.
Does Video Compressor send the video to WhatsApp for me?
No. It makes a new MP4 on your device and saves it. You pick the file in WhatsApp yourself, so you always see which copy goes to whom.
Why does “Just MP4” not make my file much smaller?
“Just MP4” is for a clip that will not play, for example a MOV from an iPhone on a Windows PC. Its job is a playable MP4, not a target size. For a file that is too big, choose “Smaller file” or “Exact size”.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The video is processed in your browser on your own device. On the first visit the page loads its program files from this website; your recording stays with you.
