Start from a layout
Your photos stay on this device. Editing, AI background removal and export run in your browser; nothing is uploaded. The AI files download from this website only the first time you remove a background.
Good to know: AI cut-outs vary with the picture, and fine hair or glass can need a touch-up with the brush. Only edit images you have the right to use (terms of use).
Plain backgrounds
How to make a white background transparent
For flat colors, color removal beats AI: it follows thin lines, small text and sharp corners that an AI model tends to round off. On this page it comes first in the settings, and PNG is already selected.
Open the image
A scan, a logo exported as JPG, a screenshot or a photo of a signature on white paper.
Remove the color
Leave Solid background color on white, or click the swatch and pick the backdrop color. Remove matching color clears every pixel close to it.
Adjust and export
Raise Tolerance if a light haze remains, lower it if parts of the logo disappear. Then create the PNG.
Photos with real depth, such as people or products in front of a busy background, need the AI cut-out instead: Remove background, right below.
Fine-tuning
Finding the right tolerance
Tolerance decides how far a color may differ from the one you picked and still disappear. The default of 35 suits a clean white page. A phone photo of paper has shading, so values between 60 and 120 are common. The soft pixels around text fade out gradually instead of leaving a hard fringe.
If parts of the design vanish because they are close to the background color, lower the tolerance and repair the rest with the Restore subject brush.
Formats
PNG, WebP or JPG?
- PNG keeps every transparent pixel and is lossless – the safe choice for logos, signatures in documents and print shops.
- WebP keeps transparency too and is usually smaller, good for websites. Some older programs cannot open it.
- JPG has no transparency. The editor fills transparent areas with the JPG background color, so the transparent look is lost.
The checkerboard in the live preview shows which parts are transparent.

How to get rid of white background on PNG?
Start with color removal when a logo or signature sits on a mostly uniform backdrop.
Select the backdrop color, adjust its removal tolerance and inspect the fine marks before exporting a transparent PNG.
Remove the plain background color
This approach removes pixels similar to a chosen color; it does not understand which white areas belong inside the logo. A white letter on a white background therefore needs particular attention. Keep the untouched asset and decide which spaces should truly be transparent. A scan with paper shadows is more demanding than a clean graphic because its apparent white background contains several slightly different colors. Open the image and use the background color-removal controls. Pick the backdrop color, then adjust the tolerance in small changes. A low tolerance may leave a pale border; a high tolerance may eat into lettering, antialiasing or light parts of the design.
Make logo transparent for free: protect the thin lettering
Protect thin lettering while removing the plain logo backdrop, then test the result on light and dark surfaces.
Compare the entire mark after every change rather than looking only at the patch you clicked. For example, the inside of a circular emblem may be intended to remain solid even though it resembles the external paper color. Check thin strokes at a useful zoom. Signature marks and small brand lettering can disappear before a broad shape looks affected. If you need a very aggressive tolerance to remove uneven paper, consider a better scan or a source with cleaner contrast. Do not keep reducing the artwork until only its darkest strokes remain unless that is the intended appearance. Removing a background and converting a signature to monochrome are separate choices; the correct combination depends on where the image will be placed.
Test the transparency on contrasting colors
PNG can contain opaque white pixels. Remove those pixels and verify transparency against a contrasting backdrop.
Test on both a light and a dark background. The checkerboard indicates transparent areas but can hide fringes. A light halo around a dark logo may come from edge pixels blended with the original paper. The mask brushes can help correct local defects, but rebuilding an intricate mark from a poor scan can be slow. If a vector original exists, use it in an appropriate vector workflow instead of assuming a small raster image is the only available source for the design. Export PNG or a supported transparent WebP when the destination needs transparency. JPG replaces transparency with a solid appearance and cannot store an alpha channel. Changing its filename to .png does not create transparent pixels.
Export the usable image and keep its project
Keep a transparent master and choose a separate solid-background export when the next application needs a particular color.
After downloading, place the new file over the actual slide or document background. Some programs use a white viewing canvas even for transparent images, so appearance in a photo viewer alone is inconclusive. A deliberate colored test area makes remaining white pixels visible. Save the working project if the logo will need another size or local repair later. Share the finished image for ordinary placement and reserve the project for someone who needs the original material. Its embedded source may contain metadata. Also distinguish background removal from permission to use a logo or a signature. The tool changes pixels; it cannot determine ownership or authorize use. For your own signature, handle the resulting file as personal material and store it where you control who can access it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a logo background transparent?
Open the logo, keep the white swatch (or pick the background color), select Remove matching color and download it as PNG. If a light edge remains, raise the tolerance.
Does it work for signatures?
Yes. Photograph or scan the signature on white paper, remove the white with a tolerance of about 60 to 120, and use the transparent PNG in documents or PDF forms. Crop it tightly first, so the file stays small.
Why is my PNG not transparent?
Usually the file was saved as JPG, which cannot hold transparency, or the color was not removed yet. Check that Format says PNG or WebP before you create the image.
Can I make the background of a photo transparent?
Yes, with the AI: choose Remove background for people, products and pets. Color removal is meant for plain, single-color backdrops.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Color removal, the AI and the export all run in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server.
